COCODY PRODUCTIONS AND AFRICA.COM HOST AFROHOP EVENT SERIES AT SMYTH HOTEL

AfroHop returned September 29 hosted by Cocody Productions and Africa.com at the Smyth Hotel. The New York-based event series brings together the best of African music and culture at unique venues. AfroHop integrates partnerships with charity, fashion, and media; special themes, and artist releases, performances, and hot diaspora DJ sets to expose the latest in African music. The series' launch included an album release and guest appearance by Ghana's Blitz the Ambassador (Info and press here). Cocody hosted AfroHop's September 29 event with Africa.com, one of the fastest-growing websites devoted to all things African. Africa.com has one million unique visitors and two million page views a month. Africa.com Deals offers unique opportunities to buy items related to Africa, such as flights, travel offers, sports tickets, music, food, and more.

"With AfroHop we are creating an exciting forum to connect Africa, the diaspora, and mainstream New York," said Cocody Director, Jake Bright. "The event series is a perfect fit for us, as Africa.com serves as a gateway for all things African across the globe,” added Africa.com CEO Teresa Clarke. Partners for September 29 include global African fashion content and retail site Heritage 1960 and fellowship program Princeton in Africa. The evening featured a special album review session - "New Music of The Brothers Kuti" - mixing tracks of Fela's sons Femi and Seun's new releases. To the backdrop of the latest Afrobeat was a vibrant cocktail party where guests mingled with Teresa Clarke, model and actor Ger Duany, journalist Lola Ogunnaike, social gatekeeper Dawne Marie Grannum, model Aina Fadina, Heritage 1960 CEO Enyinne Owunwanne, Princeton in Africa's Chantal Palmer and notables from Africa's fashion industry, including Morgan George and Kadie Afrik from Edun and Ibrahim Ndoye from Mimi Plange. The mingling soon turned to dancing, when Cocody's DJake jumped behind the decks and mixed a diaspora set that led a just returned Peace Corps volunteer and African attendee to comment, "We forgot we were in the US. We feel like we were at a hot party back in Africa." Media on 9/29 AfroHop here: Guest of a Guest, Africa.com
